Robert MyersProgram Manager, ESSEA Robert Myers joined IGES in 2006 and serves as the manager of IGES’s Earth System Science Education Alliance (ESSEA), a NSF-supported program providing teacher professional development nationwide. Dr. Myers has worked with a wide range of government programs. As program manager of NASA’s Classroom of the Future, his team developed the award-winning Exploring the Environment™ series, a program receiving 25 million hits per year. He has also worked with other NASA and U.S. Department of Education programs designed to help teachers in this period of globalization by preparing students with 21st century learning skills. Dr. Myers specializes in teacher professional development in problem-based learning, infusing inquiry into standards-based curriculum to provide relevant, authentic classroom environments. He has written extensively on problem-based learning and has conducted numerous workshops nationally and internationally. Dr. Myers earned his doctorate in curriculum and instruction from Virginia Tech, with a concentration in the use of problem-based learning and technology. His professional affiliations include: National Science Teachers Association (NSTA), American Geophysical Union (AGU), Geologic Society of America (GSA), Phi Kappa Delta, and the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD). |
