IGES and AMS Presidents Team Up in Huffington Post Op-Ed

IGES President Nancy Colleton and Dr. Marshall Shepherd, president of the American Metereological Society (AMS), wrote a joint opinion piece in the Huffington Post Green Blog on March 4th. 

In “The Next Secretary of Commerce or Weather,” Colleton and Shepherd argue that given the mounting costs of weather and climate events on U.S. business, a new set of qualifications should be written for the next Commerce Secretary. They also lay out a series of steps that whoever assumes this “vital Cabinet position” should take to meet the needs of U.S. business, emphasizing that “the next Commerce Secretary will need to assume a more proactive role in working with U.S. industry on weather and climate issues.”
