Earth Science Week Activity Calendar 2024-2025
Earth Science Week is hosted by the American Geosciences Institute (AGI) in the middle of October each year. AGI puts together an Earth Science Week Toolkit with contributions from the community, including posters, bookmarks, lessons, postcards, and a school year calendar containing monthly activities.
In support of the Earth Science Activity Calendar for the 2024-2025 School Year, IGES collaborated with the ESIP Education committee, the American Geoscience institute (AGI), and Earth Observations for the Sustainable Development Goals to create the August 2024 activity. Students collect land cover data using the GLOBE Observer Land Cover Tool. They examine a map to see how land cover changes are monitored and the progress being made toward Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 15: Life on Land. Students also consider what other data they might collect or analyze to study specific factors influencing land cover change.
